Certification project: ETL certification

ETL is a vibrant safety certification mark in North America. Its history can be traced back to the electrical testing laboratory founded by Thomas Edison in 1896. It has a wide range of visibility and recognition in North America. ETL certification is a certification required for products to be exported to the United States and Canada. The ETL mark indicates that the product has passed the accreditation test of the US NRTL and or the Canadian SCC. The ETL mark recognizes that it has the same effect as the UL or CSA mark and complies with relevant safety standards. A product with the ETL listing mark means that it has met the very low requirements of product safety standards. 

As long as any electrical, mechanical or electromechanical product bears the ETL inspection mark, it indicates that it has been tested and complies with relevant industry standards. Each industry has different testing standards, so you must consult professionals for the requirements of specific products. The ETL inspection mark is widely used in cable products, indicating that it has passed the relevant tests. 

In most areas of the United States, the approval of electrical products is mandatory. ETL refers to ETL Testing Laboratories Inc (ETL Testing Laboratories Inc). ETL's listed products are recognized by the "Authorities Having Jurisdiction" and can be considered "approved." 

ETL certification application standards:

As long as any electrical, mechanical or electromechanical product carries the ETL mark, it indicates that the product has reached the generally recognized low requirements of the US and Canadian product safety standards, and it has been tested to meet the relevant product safety standards. ETL also requires that its production site has been inspected, and the applicant agrees to conduct regular follow-up inspections to its factory thereafter to ensure that the product always meets this requirement. Application materials are required to be submitted for ETL certification: 

At present, there are two ways to obtain ETL certificate. It is to transfer the CB test report, or you can apply directly. The required documents are as follows: 

1. Application Form

2. Copy of CB test certificate (not required for direct application)

3. Copy of CB test report (not required for direct application)

4. Sample

5. Other related test results and product data, such as product manuals, photos, component lists, etc. (If you transfer through the CB report, you need to conduct a difference test)

ETL certified factory inspection: 

ETL needs to conduct factory inspections before issuing certificates, and then follow up factory inspections from time to time every quarter. In addition to the factory inspection fees, the fee for the certificate and license must be paid on a quarterly basis. If necessary, the inspector can witness the retest of the product or test it in the laboratory after sampling. Licensees must sign a statutory contract (service agreement) with ETL, which clearly stipulates the manufacturer’s responsibilities and the conditions for continuous ETL listing and use of the ETL logo.
